Bondage

Bondage is a type of sexual activity where one participant restricts the movement of another for erotic satisfaction. This practice is not limited to those engaged in BDSM (where it represents the "B" in the acronym) but can also be explored by individuals or couples who consider their sexual preferences to be more mainstream or "vanilla."

The tools of bondage can vary widely, ranging from handcuffs, blindfolds, and simple ties to more elaborate apparatus like ropes, gags, specialized furniture, and even cages. Everyday items, such as neckties or pantyhose, might also serve as makeshift restraints.

Typically in bondage scenarios, a dominant partner, often referred to as the "rigger," applies restraints to a submissive partner, sometimes called a "bunny." The dominant may bind the submissive's limbs or attach them to objects, including furniture designed for sex or regular household items. These bindings can be strictly practical or can be done in an aesthetically pleasing manner, such as with kinbaku, a form of Japanese rope tying. Techniques can range from simple ties to complex patterns that restrict movement or even involve sensory deprivation.

Safety is paramount in bondage, emphasizing the need for restraints to be secure but not dangerously tight. A general guideline is the ability to fit one or two fingers between the restraint and the skin, particularly around sensitive areas like joints, the neck, and near major arteries. It's also advised to keep safety shears nearby to quickly cut through any binding material if necessary.

Besides physical restraints, some practice psychological bondage, where a submissive is instructed to remain motionless or maintain a specific posture without the need for physical ties. This often involves a level of mental discipline and desire to obey the dominant's commands, sometimes symbolized by the wearing of a collar as a sign of their commitment to submission.

The act of binding or being bound can be intensely stimulating for those involved. Once the submissive is restrained, the dominant might engage in various forms of sexual play, from teasing with toys or physical touch to engaging in sexual acts, based on prior agreement and consent.
